About Warren
The short version
I'm Warren Pridgeon. I've been writing code since the 1990s and professionally for over 20 years. I founded OrganiCode in 2018 and I'm based in Vereeniging, Gauteng, South Africa.
Over my career I've built software for clients including Volkswagen SA, the Cape Town Stock Exchange, GHD International, and MultiChoice, along with many SMMEs who needed systems that actually solved their problems.
I'm not a faceless agency. When you work with OrganiCode, you work with me. What that means in practice: I'll go to war for you even when the battle isn't strictly mine. If your mail provider drops you and that's why the system's emails are failing, I don't throw my hands up and say "job's done on my end" - I get on the phone to the provider and help sort it out. Your system working is the job. Where the fault sits is a detail.
The journey
I started coding in the 1990s as a teenager who wanted to make computer games. In Grade 10, I asked the teacher for the Turbo Pascal textbook before we'd even reached the programming section - and taught myself. Worth mentioning: I did high school in Afrikaans, and I walked into Grade 8 with barely a working knowledge of the language (I could speak it in self defense). So by the time "Rekenaar Wetenskap" came around in Grade 10, I was teaching myself to program out of a textbook in my second language. By Grade 12, while writing my prelim exams, my mom drove me to the university to present a system I'd built. It won a prize (if anyone needs a car hire system to track clients, service intervals etc - I've built a prize winning one).
At university, programming came naturally. Java and Visual Basic were the languages of the day. I'd finish practical exams in half the allotted time and wait outside for my friends. After graduating, I landed a job and spent years honing my craft.
But the side projects never stopped. I built a report automation tool for an Industrial Psychologist friend that cut his report generation time from 30 minutes to 20 seconds. Seeing his reaction when it worked - that's the moment I got hooked on solving real problems with software.
In 2012, a friend challenged me to build an Android app for tracking business phone calls. I'd never done mobile development, but I figured it out. I built the nuts and bolts, he built the reports (Collaboration and relationships has been a big part of my journey). That app was featured in Vodacom's "Top 10 Apps for Small Businesses" in 2013, listed on the same page as Skype Mobile.
That led to building a signing-on-screen solution that was used by the likes of Provantage Media, MultiChoice, and Engen.
Previous ventures
Before OrganiCode, I was Managing Director at BitStar Solutions, building custom software for small and medium businesses. That experience taught me a lot about what clients actually need versus what developers think they need.
Why OrganiCode exists
The reason is simple: I love watching a client's eyes light up when you solve their problem.
Too many businesses run on spreadsheets, paper forms and WhatsApp groups because they think "proper software" is only for big companies. It's not. A well-built system changes how a small business runs day to day, and building those systems is the part of this job I enjoy most.
Every client gets direct access to me. You explain your problem, I will propose a few options for solving it, together we decide on the best one, and I build it. If it's not something I can help with, I'll tell you that too - honestly.
Beyond code
I'm a husband and a father. Being self-employed happened at just the right time in my life - it gave me the freedom to be there for my family when it mattered most. That experience shapes how I run OrganiCode: people come first, and treating people right isn't negotiable.
When I'm not coding, I'm probably consuming too much coffee, playing guitar, gaming, or tinkering with something that doesn't need fixing.
